When you think Hollywood you may automatically assume tall, slender, and defined muscles. But the truth is, many in Hollywood aren’t even close to the stereotypical “Hollywood celeb”.
In fact, there are three different body types, endomorph, ectomorph, and mesomorph.
Endomorphs are generally shorter, have a rounder physique, gain fat easier (slower metabolism), and have a “stocky” build to them.
Ectomorphs have the fastest metabolism of the three body types, are usually very slender, have a flat chest, and find it hard to gain weight. They have the classic “string bean” look to them.
Mesomorphs are generally more athletic, and can gain muscle (and fat) easier than the other body types. Most people with the classic V shape torso are mesomorphs.
Looking at the three body types listed above, it’s easy to see how ectomorphic and mesomorphic bodies would be generally accepted among Hollywood. It’s much more difficult to see the endomorphic body as being acceptable.
However, it would be a mistake to hold that belief. Hollywood is filled with stars who have the classic endomorphic body type. These stars include:
He’s short (5’6″) and fat, a classic endomorph. But, that hasn’t stopped his acting career. Jack Black is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood today starring in feature films such as: Nacho Libre, School of Rock, King Kong, and also lending his voice to the incredibly successful Kung Fu Panda movies (both 1 &2).
Standing just 5’8″, and known for his “robust” appearance, Kevin James is one of the most successful comedian actors in Hollywood. James has starred in films such as Paul Blart: Mall Cop, I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, and Zookeeper. James is known as an “approachable” Hollywood celeb who is more of a “regular joe” kind of guy than a big time Hollywood star. And, this is what generates a lot of his audience appeal.
At 6’2, Goodman is taller than your average endomorph, while still displaying the “round” body shape. He’s best known for the long running TV series Roseanne in which he played the role of Dan Conner. Goodman also provided the voice for Sully in the huge blockbuster animation Monsters, Inc.. Other memorable movies starring Goodman include Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski.
Known for years as the Queen of daytime TV, Oprah went from obscurity to building herself a multi-billion dollar television empire. Her daytime talk show was the highest rated of its kind in the history of television. She’s also famous for battling her weight, and has openly discussed the issue with her viewers. Oprah is so famous in fact that when the first black President of the United States (Barack Obama) won the general election on November 4th of 2008, what was one of the headline stories the next day? Oprah had cried.
The people above have blown the Hollywood stereotype of body types right out of the water. This is proof positive that regardless of what any preconceived ideas may be, if you’ve got the talent, you can make it big in Hollywood.
